Merit-Based Scholarship

Merit-Based Scholarships: Merit-based scholarships are for students who excel in a certain field, such as athletics or academics. Other types of merit awards include scholarships for students who play instruments or students who are involved in leadership.

ACADEMIC MERIT-BASED SCHOLARSHIPS

 

DAVIDSON COLLEGE - JOHN M. BELK SCHOLARSHIP

- Criteria: Seniors with the following attributes: students with demonstrated academic excellence, integrity, intellectual curiosity, willingness to take risks, and potential to be change agents in both their local and global communities.

- Awards: Covers comprehensive cost (tuition, fees, room, and board) for four years, plus two special opportunity stipends ($3,000 each).

- Ask a counselor about your school's nomination process.

- Must also apply for undergraduate admissions to be considered for this scholarship by November 15th, 2023.


UNC CHAPEL HILL/DUKE - ROBERTSON SCHOLARS

- Criteria: Scholars that pursue a range of passions, academic interests, and personal and professional goals; strong applicants demonstrate purposeful leadership, intellectual curiosity, strength of character and collaborative spirit .

- Awards: Full merit scholarships  

- Students can only self-nominate by November 15th, 2023.

- Must also apply for undergraduate admissions to either Duke or UNC Chapel Hill to be considered for this scholarship by November 1st, 2023 

 

Beginning this fall, Duke University will provide full tuition grants for admitted undergraduate student residents of North Carolina and South Carolina whose families have a total income of $150,000 or less. For Duke undergraduate students from North Carolina and South Carolina with total family incomes of $65,000 or less, the university will provide full tuition grants, plus financial assistance for housing, meals, and some course materials or other campus expenses, without the need for student loans.

 

Beginning this fall, UNC-Chapel Hill will provide free tuition and fees for incoming undergraduates from families who make less than $80,000 annually. This will start with the incoming fall 2024 undergraduate class.


UNC CHARLOTTE - LEVINE SCHOLARS

- Criteria: The Levine Scholars Program takes the brightest, most capable students and gives them the tools, resources, and environment they need to explore the world around them, engage deeply in their communities, and excel across disciplines.

- Awards: The four-year scholarship includes full tuition, room, and board, a grant to implement a service project of the Scholar’s own design, and four summers of experience that will develop leadership skills, social awareness, and an international perspective. The total value of this four-year package is estimated at $105,000 for in-state students and $155,000 for out-of-state students.

- You may self-nominate or ask a counselor about your school’s nomination process. If you choose to self-nominate you must do so by October 15th, 2023.

- You must also apply for undergraduate admissions to be considered for this scholarship by November 1st, 2023.


NC A&T - CHEATHAM-WHITE SCHOLARSHIP  

- Criteria: Students should be proficient in areas of both the arts and sciences, show exceptional qualities of character and leadership, be significantly involved in extracurricular activities and demonstrate a strong commitment to service.  Average 4.00+ weighted cumulative GPA , ACT 28+, Average SAT 1280+ 

- Awards: A fully funded 4-year scholarship.

 

NC A&T - DOWDY SCHOLARS  

- Criteria: Students who have shown excellence in academic and scholarly leadership in high school; exceptional character and leadership; minimum weighted GPA of 3.75 to be nominated.  

- Awards: Full scholarship with additional programming.  

 

NC A&T - FEBRUARY ONE SCHOLARS

- Criteria: Embody the characteristics of the A&T Four through exceptional qualities of character and leadership, be significantly involved in extracurricular activities, and demonstrate a strong commitment to service. Must pursue an undergraduate degree in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, the College of Education or the College of Health and Human Sciences. Have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale and a minimum score of 1270 on the SAT or 27 on the ACT.

- Awards: Full scholarship with additional programming.- If you choose to self-nominate you must apply through the Honors College Portal by November 15th, 2023When you apply to the Honors College, you are applying for consideration for all three scholarship programs. You must also apply for undergraduate admissions by November 15th, 2023. You are encouraged to apply early as these scholarship programs are very competitive and meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee an award.


NC CENTRAL - CHEATHAM-WHITE SCHOLARSHIP  

- Criteria: Students should be proficient in areas of both the arts and sciences, show exceptional qualities of character and leadership, be significantly involved in extracurricular activities, and demonstrate a strong commitment to service.  Average 4.00+ weighted cumulative GPA , ACT 28+, Average SAT 1280+ 

- Awards: A fully funded 4-year scholarship  

- You may self-nominate or ask a counselor about your school’s nomination process. If you choose to self-nominate you must do so by November 1st, 2023.

- Must also apply for undergraduate admissions to be considered for this scholarship by November 1st, 2023.


NC STATE UNIVERSITY - PARK SCHOLARSHIP: 

- Criteria: The Park Scholarship is awarded on the basis of outstanding accomplishments and potential in scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Minimum unweighted GPA of 3.5 and/or a minimum weighted GPA of 4.0, be a United States citizen, permanent resident of the U.S., or graduating from a high school located in the U.S. (regardless of citizenship status).

- Awards: A fully funded 4-year scholarship. 

- Students can only self-nominate by November 1st, 2023.

- Must also apply for undergraduate admissions to be considered for this scholarship by November 1st, 2023, and request an early action decision.

 

NCSU - GOODNIGHT SCHOLARS PROGRAM

- Criteria: Be a NC resident, select a STEM career, and demonstrate a history of exceptional academic performance

- Awards: Scholarships valued at $23,000 and are renewable for up to four years.

- Students can only self-nomination beginning November 1, 2023 and must be completed by December 1st, 2023. 

- Must also apply for undergraduate admissions to be considered for this scholarship by November 1st, 2023.


UNC-CHAPEL HILL - MOREHEAD-CAIN SCHOLARSHIP

- Criteria: Morehead-Cain looks for seniors who are outstanding in four key pillars: leadership, the moral force of character, scholarship, and physical vigor.

- Awards: a four-year, fully funded educational experience.

- You may self-nominate or ask a counselor about your school’s nomination process. If you choose to self-nominate you must do so by October 1st, 2023.

- Must also apply for undergraduate admissions to be considered for this scholarship by January 15, 2024.
